Introduction to map.army — military map planning

This first-steps guide introduces map.army , the browser-based progressive web app for planning military exercises and missions, and walks you through launching it and getting around the main window. About five minutes; no installation required.

Launch the app

To start map.army , open www.map.army in a supported browser — other browsers won’t support every feature. map.army is a progressive web app, so you can install it on your device and run it like a native app — follow the install instructions for your browser and OS.

Main window

By default, map.army opens in the main window: Main Window of Military Map Generator [map.army] on first start

Hint: If loading takes more than 20 seconds, press Ctrl + F5 to force a clean reload. If the problem persists, check that your operating system and browser are supported.

Functions in the main window

The following major functions can be accessed in the main window:

Icon	Function	Description
	Map Overlays	Menu to load, edit and save the Military Map overlays (MilX Layers, Vector or Image Overlays)
	Print the map or Export to PDF	Function to export the generated Military Map as PDF or to print.
	Options	Menu to set the Map Options, Symbol Format Options as well as the general Options for the Web Application.
	Add new MSS Symbol	Function to search for the Military Symbol using the Symbol Gallery or the advanced Symbol Search.
	MSS Symbol Editor	Editor to add Modifiers and Attributes to the Military Symbol.
	View and Edit graphic’s coordinate	Editor to view and change the reference coordinates of a Military Symbol or tactical Graphic.
	Switch to 3D Map view	Shows map in Military Map Generator in 3D read-only view.
	Switch to 2D Map view	Shows map in Military Map Generator in 2D edit mode.
	Message and Info Center	Area displaying important messages and links to additional information on the Web Application.
	Full Screen Mode	Button to run the Military Map Generator in full screen.
