Keyboard Shortcuts Reference for map.army
The keyboard shortcuts available in map.army . They are grouped by what they affect — application chrome, editing actions, map navigation, the geometry editors, and symbol selection in the Layer Manager.
Application
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
F11 | Toggle full-screen mode. The same effect as the Full Screen Mode button in the bottom-right corner. Press again to exit. See Introduction. |
Ctrl + F5 | Force a clean reload — bypasses the browser cache and pulls the latest version of the PWA. Use it after an update prompt or when the application takes more than ~20 seconds to load. See Update the Application. |
Ctrl + S | Update the published share link. Only does anything when the Share feature is active and has registered a callback — see How to create a share. |
Editing — undo, redo, copy, paste
Ctrl + Z / Ctrl + Y are scoped to delete-graphic and remove-layers actions in the current session. Placement moves, modifier edits, and layer renames are not on the history stack — save to .milxlyz regularly for full protection (see Export Overlays).
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl + Z | Undo — recover a deleted graphic or restore layers removed via the MilX Exchange dialog. |
Ctrl + Y | Redo — re-apply the most recently undone delete-graphic / remove-layers action. |
Ctrl + C | Copy — the focused map graphic, the symbol in the Symbol Editor, or the symbol in the MilxTrack comm-center editor (depending on which element has focus). |
Ctrl + V | Paste — a previously copied symbol onto the focused graphic, active layer, or MilxTrack symbol slot. |
Map navigation
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
ArrowLeft / ArrowUp / ArrowRight / ArrowDown | Pan the map. |
Shift + ArrowUp / Shift + ArrowDown | Raise / lower height above the surface (3D). |
Ctrl + ArrowLeft / Ctrl + ArrowUp / Ctrl + ArrowRight / Ctrl + ArrowDown | Pan heading / pitch (3D view). |
Z / + | Zoom in. |
X / - | Zoom out. |
N | Reset orientation to North. |
D (hold) | Toggle the magnifier lens while pressed. |
Geometry editors
Active in the Point Editor and other geometry editors.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Space | Editor confirm action — finish the current drawing or commit the current edit. |
Escape | Cancel the current tool or editor action. |
Delete | Delete a path point, or delete the focused item in the editor. |
Shift + Delete | Reset the point direction. |
S | Toggle snapping. |
N-point editor modes
Available while editing a multi-point tactical graphic. The Ctrl + ArrowLeft / Ctrl + ArrowRight bindings override the 3D heading-pan shortcuts above while the N-point editor has focus.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl (hold) | Insert-mode — add a new point on click. |
Shift (hold) | Delete-mode — remove a point on click. |
Ctrl + ArrowLeft / Ctrl + ArrowRight | Select the previous / next point in the geometry. |
Symbol selection in the Layer Manager
When the Layer Manager is open you can act on more than one symbol at a time. See Edit Overlays for the full workflow.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl + click on a symbol | Add the clicked symbol to the current selection (multi-select). |
Ctrl + drag a rectangle over symbols | Select every symbol within the rectangle. Useful when consolidating or merging layers. |
After multi-selecting, you can drag the whole selection onto another layer in the Layer Manager to move all selected symbols in one step.
A note on completeness
The list above is the documented set of in-app keyboard shortcuts in
map.army
. The browser may surface additional shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl + scroll for zoom, browser back / forward) that behave as they do in any web app. If you find an undocumented in-app shortcut that is worth adding here, let us know via the contact form.
